You and I are talking apples and oranges then cause I’m involved with adopting out NGA racers in the US. Around 90% here are finding their way to couches.
You folks in Australia and NZ are still trying to fight steriotypes and distrimination against the breed. Heck, you still need to muzzle your dogs in public, no?

Misinformed ? Fortunately I do have the exact numbers here at my fingertips as I work in animal welfare here in Australia. 2007 alone saw 18312 Greyhounds euthanised through registered means (god knows how many others by unregistered means) in my home state of QLD alone. Nationally the figures were a staggering 83793. in 2007 ALONE. check my figures. pls un-misinform yourself.

No, your are sorely misinformed…. more are hitting couches than not. I don’t personally have the exact numbers, but last count was 80 – 90% are going to adoption. Its not that our noses are in a racing guide, its that we’ve chosen to educate ourselves about the industry rather than swallow the anti racing tripe.

you need to read the statistics, more than 20,000 greyhounds are killed in the US alone. I own two racing greyhounds, I would have more if I could. They are the sweetest dogs ever, but the scars on their bodies, the decay of their teeth, and their fear of some men show me that life for them was not as good as you claim it to be……

Racing greyhounds are one of the most well looked after domestic animals around. Fed all natural high protein food, excersiced properly, kept in heated kennels. At the end of the day the owner wants to hound to win, and if it isnt happy or well looked after its not going to be at its optimum health or temperment.

I’m sure they would. The issue is not how most racers are treated (most are treated well except for few awful cases) its HOW MANY ARE KILLED when they are either still pups or can no longer race. Its you who need education… open your eyes and read more more than the racing form guide and you’ll find out.

I’m sorry those of you who are so anti-greyhound racing are so misinformed. My adopted ex-racers love going back to the race kennel, will try to jump into those evil “cages” and you should hear them when they go to the track to watch races. They loved their “jobs” and would gladly go back to work, if they could.

It is a misconception that greyhound racing is cruel. It varies as do all human activities. Our adopted greyhound was in excellent physical and mental health. The real abuse occurs in peoples homes who neglect, abuse, and hoard animals. This animals are given a purpose in life and retired. Better than being a pathetic, spoiled lap dog any day.
