Favorite Activities of The Italian Greyhound

The Italian Greyhound is a very lovable, engaging dog breed which loves playing with its family. The dogs may participate in several show events and competitions; they excel at lure coursing, agility, obedience and conformation events. An Italian Greyhound truly thrives at agility events and when they are not in a show, they love to relax and lounge. One could say an Italian Greyhound is one of the cuddliest and snuggly of all dog breeds, they truly enjoy nothing more than being in the lap of their most favorite person.

As much as an Italian Greyhound loves being with its family, the dog is also very social and loves interacting with other dogs. They do particularly well with dogs they have been well-socialized with, however, when introducing the dog to a larger breed it should be done using extreme caution. A larger dog breed could easily injure an Italian Greyhound and the dogs are so tenacious, they would not know when to step back.

An Italian Greyhound gets along well with a cat and enjoys playing with them; they have even been known to nap in the sunshine together on occasion.

An Italy Greyhound adores lounging on the sofa or being curled up in bed with its master. The dog loves nothing more than being snuggled up under the covers in a tight little ball. An Italian Greyhound will wait patiently for an owner to offer them a spot under the covers; however, the dog has also been known to sneak under the covers without an invitation. When it is naptime, you will find the Italian Greyhound contentedly curled up on the couch next to their owner. An Italian Greyhound is a very social dog and who loves nothing more than curling up and seeks a warm and welcoming spot in the lap of their adoring owner.

Another thing an Italian Greyhound loves to do is play with toys, particularly of the stuffed variety.

The dog loves to play with them, but have also been known to shred them apart if given the chance. Playing fetch and catch is another activity the dogs love to do and they are very adept at fetching and retrieving. The dogs not only love the activity, they love the chance to share playtime and bonding with their owner.

When an Italy Greyhound is relaxing in the home, they love being in high spots. The dogs love lounging in windowsills or on the top of a sofa or the back of a chair. An Italy Greyhound will even climb up to the top of a table if permitted or left unattended. A windowsill is a favored spot of the dog because they can bask in the sunshine and enjoy looking out the window and seeing all the action going on outside. The dogs love being outdoors on a sunny day and particularly enjoys lying in the sun on a fuzzy blanket. If your family spends much time outside, your dog will want to be right by your side enjoying the warmth of the sun, surrounded by the company of their loving family.

Greyhound Handicapping – Winning In Spite of the Track Takeout

If you’re a longtime bettor, you know that the track has a take out, a percentage they take out of each bet. At some tracks, the takeout is as high as 21% on trifectas and other exotic bets, while lower on win, place, show and quiniela bets. At other tracks, Twin Rivers in RI springs to mind, the takeout is the same – 19% last time I checked – for all bets. This can make a big difference over the course of a bettor’s wins and losses at the track through the years.

Look at it this way, if the track takes out.20 for every dollar you win, you’re only winning.80 per dollar and losing on every hundred dollars you win. That’s something you have to take into consideration every time you bet. In order just to break even, you have to make .20 on every dollar you bet. That’s why greyhound handicapping is an uphill battle. There are plenty of other forms of wagering that don’t have the takeout that greyhound racing does.

So, next time you go to the window, keep in mind that you’re betting against stacked odds. Only if you can consistently earn back more than .20 for every dollar you bet (or whatever the takeout is at your track), will you make money at the track. Sometimes the takeout amount is printed in the program or on the website, but if it isn’t, ask your track manager to tell you what it is on each type of bet.

At my favorite track, quinielas have a lower takeout than trifectas, so that’s what I play the most. Then too, you have to figure that a decent handicapper can hit more quinielas than trifectas, so you get a better return on your money right there.

Greyhound Handicapping – Winning With Spring Fever

Warning! This is one of the Oddball Methods I’ve found that works once in awhile in special circumstances. Don’t depend on it to work every time, but then what does at the track? Or in life for that matter…

Ah spring! When a young man’s fancy and a greyhound’s instincts are focused on pretty much the same thing. Call it love, if you like, but we’d have to admit that it’s pretty powerful stuff. Male racing greyhounds are just as likely to want to chase a likely-looking female as young men are likely to follow that pretty girl who just walked by and gave them the eye. But how can we use this to win money at the track?

I’ve used this method several times at every track I’ve been to in the spring. I look for a race with only one female in it. They happen. Not often, but every once in awhile, the “luck of the draw” sets one up. Then I look to see if there’s a young male dog in the same race. If there is, I look at the oldest male in the race and see if I think he has a shot at keeping up with the other two dogs.

What usually happens is the female leads the pack, followed by the young male, who’s trying like crazy to catch her, followed by the oldest male who sometimes passes one of both of them right near the wire, if he has the late kick to do it. Of course, it doesn’t always work out this way. Sometimes the female stays second all the way around the track and gets passed by two male dogs at the end.

Sometimes, the young male manages to pass the female – maybe trying to impress her, I don’t know – and he wins for fun. Sometimes, unfortunately, the young male just about attacks the female and knocks her and himself (and maybe a few other dogs) out of the race. Usually though, older females won’t put up with a young male getting in her way. They’ll do whatever they have to do to avoid them.

So, if you like oddball bets – I do once in awhile – and you see this scenario, play it. I like a quiniela with the female and the youngest male and the oldest dog, but you can play several different bets with this setup. Just playing the female to Win and Place would be a good bet.

Like I always say, Sometimes you have to make an Odd bet to Beat the Odds.

Greyhound Handicapping – #1 Way to Win Consistently at the Dog Track

If you’re losing more than you’re winning at the dog track, maybe it’s time to step back and take a long, hard look at your handicapping method. And if you’re not using a method, then it’s definitely time to think about what you do when you go to the track.

Betting without planning is a fool’s game, although even the best handicappers slip into it once in awhile. But if it’s more than once in awhile for you, it’s pretty certain that you’ll lose more than you win and that’s no fun.

So, if you want to win consistently, you have to handicap consistently. You need a system – either one that you come up with yourself over time – or one that someone else has come up with over time. In either case, the system has to be tried and true, not something that your buddy’s brother in law thought up over beers at a backyard BBQ.

Greyhound handicapping is a very difficult art.

Greyhounds don’t have jockeys, so once they get out onto the track, it’s all instinct, speed and running smarts. The only way you can consistently pick winners at the dog track is by watching thousands of races, noticing what crucial factors indicate that a dog is ready to perform in THIS particular race, and then betting the race the right way.

If that sounds like what you’re doing and you’re going home with a fatter wallet than you went with, give yourself a pat on the back and keep doing what you’re doing. But if you’re not getting any better at handicapping, even after many trips to the track, consider listening to Albert Einstein.

Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.” That’s what you’re doing when you keep making the same mistakes over and over at the track, picking numbers or listening to other people or depending on luck to help you pick dogs.

There are books on greyhound handicapping. There are greyhound handicapping forums on the Net. There are all kinds of systems and methods that you can buy that can help you pick winners. There’s just no reason to keep losing with all the information that’s out there. So, if you want to win consistently, improve your handicapping skills and put some time and effort into learning the craft of greyhound handicapping.

Is There a Strategy I can use for Greyhound Racing?

Greyhound racing is a very competitive sport, and also exciting. Those dogs run as fast as they can around the tracks. Some people just take a guess as to who the winners will be. Should they end up with some cash in their pocket when all is said and done then they are extremely pleased.

If you are more serious though about making money at the dog track you need to implement some strategies. There is a great deal of information about each dog that will be racing in the daily program. That information is going to help you decide who the winners of each race will be.

Take the time to review the times for each dog that will be in a given race. Some people look only at the times for a given stretch of their previous races. However, by looking at overall times you will notice that some of them are very fast in a couple of stretches and then lag behind in others.

It is to your advantage to pay attention to the grade each dog in a given race is placed in. The higher the grade the more consistent that dog is. This means that the numbers presented for them in the program are very reliable. The problem though is that top class dogs often race against other top dogs.

Dogs get moved from class to class all the time. This is due to their performance. It is important to realize that the dogs with top billing in class A are several seconds faster than those that rank in the top of class C. Therefore if you see a dog listed as first place in class C against one who is third in class A there is a good chance the second dog is going to come in first.

Pay close attention to the form of a greyhound out there as well. It is true that the better their form is the most consistent they will be on the track. You should be able to see improvements in certain dogs over time. If you are a regular at the track you will notice this occurring. It is wise to carry a notebook with a page for each of those dogs you frequently see at the track.

Racings systems – the paradox and perils

So why do two people following the same horse or greyhound racing system and same set of rules get two different results? A very perplexing question but not an uncommon result in the world of gambling.

The main reason is because it is highly unlikely that two people following the same rules will interpret the rules exactly in the same manner regardless of how accurately they think they do.People are not computers. Our brains, given the same set of selection criteria, always see things in ever so slightly different ways that, taken in total, can change the result of that selection exercise from one person to another.

As analysts we’re far from perfect. If we were all perfect in our analysis of that common information, we would get the same answers but “we ain’t”!It is worth noting that to get the same long term result overall, we must all also start and finish exactly on the same race, on the same days and must have had no unforeseen interruptions when we were betting – e.g. no phone calls, no power interruptions, no computer crashes, no input errors, no sudden family emergencies, no missed races whatsoever for any reason.

In reality, the gambling game is exactly the same as a giant conveyor belt with people getting on and off at different points and while they may be using the same methodology they must end up with different results because their points of embarkation and departure on the “conveyor belt” are different.

All the testing we do on horse and greyhound racing systems can therefore ONLY be valid for the days we actually did the test – if we had done them the day before or the week before, the results by their very nature would HAVE to have been different.

We accept that to succeed at absolutely anything you must have a plan of approach (system if you like) or how will you know when you have achieved your goal?The fascinating aspect is that it is highly unlikely that two people following the same system will achieve the same outcome at the same time and in the same manner.

We write up research results on racing “systems” all the time and yet, no matter how much trouble we go to in trying to be clear and concise in our explanation of the rules and results of these systems, we always get queries from people who see the same words and interpret them in an ever so slightly different manner. Their application of this common information can therefore not result in the same outcomes.

Now it’s not because we’re silly or they’re silly, it is merely that our brains just process the same basic information differently. Interesting concept, isn’t it?

Animals participate in many sports, some being legal and some being not so legal. There are also the famous dog shows where dogs compete in classes by breed; some believe this to be a sport while others feel it is more of a competition.

Bullfighting has been around since the prehistoric days, and is a very popular animal sport in Spain, where it is viewed as a dramatic ritual between the bull and the matador. Besides Spain, bullfighting is also popular in Portugal, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, France, and is also quite popular in the state of California. Out of all of the bullrings in the world, Mexico City is home to the largest one of them all, which seats 55,000 spectators.

Dogsledding became an organized animal sport in Alaska in 1908, and has been increasing in popularity ever since. In dog sledding, a team of dogs pulls a sled that carries the driver, who is sometimes referred to as the “musher.” There are different types of dog sled races, but the teams of dogs are made up of three, six or twelve dogs. Some races are short and are considered to be sprint races, while others are considered long-range races and can cover a course consisting of 200 to 1000 miles.

As with many animal sports, there are those who believe that cock fighting should be banned due to animal cruelty. However, in some cultures cock fighting is legal and draws huge crowds, such as in Guam, Peru, Belgium, Italy, Haiti, Spain, France, Mexico, Malaysia, Puerto Rico, and the Phillipines, which have arenas built especially for cock fighting. There are also animal sports that are less known about like those that occur at county fairs; frog jumping contests, pig races, turtle races and the like can all be considered animal sports as they have a number of animal participants competing against one another.
