Brooksville, Florida — Hernando Co. Jail is housing more than inmates these days. Since May 8, greyhounds moved in with 50 female inmates. The pilot program called 2nd Chance at Life has already been tried in prisons in other states, but this is the first in the county at a county jail. During a 12-week training session, inmates share their cells and care for the dogs 24/7, while socializing and preparing them for their new adoption homes. He had been a stray for around 6 months before being taken in by the Local Noahs Arc animal charity. He was in a bad way, very thin and full of ticks and fleas.
